Asheville artist and sculptor Sean Pace brought his special talents to ECHS recently. Pace has gained a national reputation for creating works of art that move. Tim Dowless' advanced art class were given a motor and a box and had to create a "kinetic" sculpture that told a story or presented an idea.
Students had to work out motion, force and mass of their "simple machines".
This project was made possible by a grant from the North Carolina Arts Council. Pace will return again in March to be the clinician at Celebrate the Arts.
Each student had to have 50% growth from their initial placement in Reading and Mathematics.

They were treated to a pizza party and movie during the last hour of the school day. Williams helped the ladies from catering and the central office fix plates for the staff. Lu Ann Milligan-Pickell, Carol Blake, Geneva Futch, and Heather Herring were recognized at a recent board meeting for obtaining National Board certification.
Big B the DJ from 97.3 visited Hallsboro/Artesia on February 12th. East Columbus High School Basketball Players participated at Acme Delco Middle Schools Career Fair Day on Feb. The students that attended were Demaya Berry, Mardezia Brooks, Elijah Gresham, Tremaine Howard, and Marquise King, who were all former students at Acme Delco Middle School, and all play multiple sports at East Columbus High School, as well as excel in the classroom. Marlette Watson was recognized for successfully renewing National Board certification. On December 14th the newly established Hallsboro/Artesia Elementary Chorus held its first concert, "What Christmas Means to Me" for parents and students.
Big B was one of the motivational speakers asked to speak to HAES students in honor of black history month. The student/athletes talked about the importance of academics and making good grades to be able to play sports. The Chorus was established as an after school club by Lab Manager Mrs.
